Luck vs Hard-work

I would like to present the Best Answer on my LinkedIn question: Luck vs Hard-work.

The winner is Frank (Francesco) S. Adamo, http://www.linkedin.com/in/fsadamo.

Please find the answer bellow.

------------------

For me, it has been putting God in the pilot's seat. I've been fairly successful in my careers (yes, careers, 5 to 6 to date) and God has always (well, nearly aways) been in my life. But like a movie back in the 1940's, "God is my Co-Pilot," God has been my co-pilot.

Things began to happen in 2000 when I visited my grandfather's country of Italy. We toured Rome for a week and then I drove down to my grandfather's hometown in Sicily. Things happened there that began to affect God's position in my life. Gradually, as things happened, I started placing God in the pilot's seat and asking him to fly me to where he wanted me to go. Doors of opportunity began to opened.

The first time, I sent an email to a major talk radio station with a simple (and rather awkward) 2 paragraph explaining what I had been doing (teaching communication skills at a community college), I received a reply within 3 days asking me to come to the studios. They accepted my ideas for the show.

This past year, I began writing a 2nd book (I never completed the 1st book) just to have at least one back of the room product. I finished a draft and sent it to some professional people I know and some friends to help review, edit and proof the book. Over the next 3 months, I went through about 6 drafts until I came up with the final copy which I was preparing to self-publish. During this period, I submitted my 2nd (poorly written) draft to a Christian based publisher. This was the first time I ever did this and to only one publisher. Less than a week before I was ready to send my book to a self publishing company, I received a contract and a letter stating that they accepted my book.

Twice, (actually more than that) I have submitted an idea, a book, etc. one time to a major company, and they accepted my concepts. People keep on asking me, "How did you get a talk show on a major radio station? I've been wanting to do this for many months." Or, "How did you get your book accepted by a book publisher? I've been self-publishing for months or years."

The only answer is that it was God's will. Obviously, I must have a good book and I must have had an idea for a talk show that someone really liked. But how often has others submitted a good manuscript or a good idea for a talk show and you never hear from them.

Both times, I submitted an amateurish item. Not a final version of a manuscript but a 2nd of 6 drafts. Not a formal proposal to the radio station, but a simple 2 paragraph email (no attachments) with a "Dear ," salutation. I forgot to remove the "Dear ," from the email. It's difficult for me to imagine one incident where I would submit an item one time to one company and they accepted it. But two times?

Was it just luck? How can that be? It would be like winning the lottery twice in one year.. It had to be God's will because I decided placed him in the pilot's seat and I asked him to guide me to where he wanted me to go rather than asking him to help me in where I wanted to travel..

For those who have difficult to believe this (it would be hard for me to believe without my faith) or don't have a belief in God, check "The Secret." It discusses the secret of the law of the universe. I happen to believe this is God's guidance.

Ciao,

Frank (Francesco)
